How to Begin Your Airbnb Journey
A few years ago, I bought my first Airbnb on a whim. I bought the only house I could afford and furnished it with whatever I could find. I prayed someone might book it but probably didn’t need to because I was only charging $55/night. Whoops! 0/10 Do NOT recommend. That was Airbnb’s “Smart Pricing” recommendation and one reason I encourage new hosts to explore other pricing strategies today.
In spite of my beginner status, it went well. So well in fact, that I bought a second house six months later, partially with the funds generated by the first Airbnb.
Around the same time, a friend sent me an online tutorial about rental arbitrage. In the STR world, this is the practice of leasing an apartment or condo and listing it on Airbnb. Ever the student, I devoured the webinar, followed the instructions and quickly opened five more units for an investment of approximately $3,000 each. I’ll dive into the numbers on that at another time but the point is that no matter your starting capital, there are opportunities for you within the STR world.
Long story short, I hired a team, learned about interior design, and built a six figure business. To this day, I’m grateful someone sent me that webinar which helped me grow much more quickly than I could have on my own. I experienced firsthand how valuable it can be to have a guide as you get started.
